Cycle 2 Week 10

Comments:

(Mekka): Good answer . This was very helpful.

(Bashir):
It seemed like your question was unclear ands your answer didn't have a lot to do with what our topic is about.

Cycle 2 Week 10

My Question Was:
How do you know that an object or substance has all three of the ways heat can transfer?

My Answer Is:
I am going to break it down first. You know you have conduction when you can feel the transfer of the heat by touching the object or substance. It's like when you walk on hot sand and your foot gets hot from the heat of the sand. You know you have convection when you see heat rising to a substance. Usually that object or substance will move in a continuous cycle like a lava lamp. A lava lamp has wax that sits at the bottom and when it heats up it goes to the top and when it cools it goes back to the bottom. The last one is radiation. Radiation is being able to feel heat without actually making contact with the source. A great example is the sun and how it heats the Earth even though the earth isn't touching or contacting with it at all. So how can you get an object that consist of all three of these well making fondue is just one example but another one could be right were your sitting; In your house. A house because radiation happens when the sun beams down on your house causing heat to travel inside. Conduction happens because the heat flows from one object to another. You might sit in a chair that is hot because of all the heat in the house. Last but not least convection takes place when heat is transferred when there is movement of the actual source of heat. so that is my answer I hope it was helpful. Please leave comments on what you think I could do to make it better or to make less more in my case.

Cycle 2 Week 9

Today class was about making a parachute that could hold the weight of a plastic egg and land in at least within ten seconds. The parachute could have made out of coffee holders, pipe cleaners, string, beads, and napkins. The goal is to use these things in order to make a parachute that follows the guidelines that I mentioned in the first sentence. My partner Jennifer and I plan to use the supplies to make sure our parachute is not only stable but not to heavy. We want to make sure our parachute has enough air resistance and doesn't have a lot of weight. Air resistance plays a large part and the size of the person or object plays a large role in the how fast it falls and it's efficiency.

Cycle 2 Week 8

My five months of blogging have really helped me. I've learned so many different things about science and so many different contents of science.Technology has helped me build my learning ability. Technology has helped me find new ways of creating a project or doing research. I did very well in being creative and finding very accurate and helpful information. I could have based some of my post on science more like my game post. I would like to ask questions to my followers. I had done it before but I did not get the results I was hoping for. Using technology has sharpened my computer skills and my reading ability. I have really been reading a lot more and doing more complex things.

Comment 1 (Bryce) Week 8: Good response, I like how you included what you learned from someone else.

Comment 2 (Ashley) Week 8: I think you did a lot of thinking on your questions . you answered them very well and gave good ideas. I think we should use the blogs to study.

Comments Ashley and Jennifer

Ashley: I really like your information and the bridge you chose was pretty cool. Great job.

Jennifer: You did I really great job. You gave very descriptive details. I really like you letter are in blue because I thinks it's cool that the bridge has a blue arch over it.

Cycle 2 Week 7

A famous bridge that I know  of is the Rialto Bridge in Venice, Italy. The inventors were people like

Jacopo SansovinoPalladio and Vignola. Another person that was said to have helped was the legendary Michelangelo. The Rialto is an arch bridge and it is made out of stone. The length of the bridge is 94.5 feet and that is  28.8 meters

Fun Facts:
The present stone bridge, a single span designed by Antonio da Ponte, was finally completed in 1591.
It was partly burnt in the revolt led by Bajamonte Tiepolo in 1310.
In 1444 it collapsed under the weight of a crowd watching a boat parade and it collapsed again in 1524.

Week 6 Prompt (Bryce)

I like how you related the electrical engineer to things that you enjoy.

Week 6 Prompt (Bashir)

I think you did okay but I would suggest spell check.
Engennering = Engineering
Trechnology = Technology

Week 6 Prompt

From Discover Engineering I learned that there are many kinds of engineering. There's one that we all might be familiar with called computer engineering. Computer engineering is the design, maintenance, and the construction of computers and other computer controlled equipment. Another on that really caught my eye was Agriculture and Biological engineering. These two forms of engineering deal with advancing agriculture and farming.

The career I would like to do is become a Biomedical engineer. I think this study might be most helpful because I want to be a pediatrician. Biomedical engineering is the study biology and medicine to strengthen the technologies related to health care. You can produce medical diagnostic machines and artificial organs. I really would enjoy doing this for a living.

Week 5 2nd Prompt (Furdois)

you did good explaining how the test felt but I think you should have focused more on the blogging.

Week 5 2nd Prompt (Tim)

Good job. I really like how you related it to how people chose to express the ways they learn.

Cycle 2 Week 5: Blogging in Schools

Now a days schools are using blogs to not only get their students prepared to use the different technology that high school requires. Schools are also finding how much their student is learning inside and outside of school. Schools can also get their students opinions on ideas through blogging.

Blogging is also a great to get  helpful criticism. I know that when students and teachers comment on my blog and give feedback it just makes my next blog post better. some ideas I found were ones like adding a picture for more detail or writing the resources so people can see the website you got information from themselves.

Some ideas I have is to try to make some things that you blog about come to reality. so for example if you have an experiment in your post like the lava lamp experiment. Try creating it and explaining what you did or how it looked. If you can take a picture of what you made or find a picture on the Internet of the same experiment.

Week 5 Prompt (Khyla)

Great job you really gave clear examples and great reasoning.

Week 5 Prompt (Bashir)

I think you did okay but you should have given more examples or elaborated.

Cycle 2 Week 5: My Blogging

The technology we use in class has really helped me learn about all the material I needed for the NJ ASK. Blogging has made me a better thinker and I have added new words to my vocabulary. Blogging has helped my writing by giving me more information about science and how I should write my responses to a scientific question. Blogging has helped me on the NJ ASK because during the course of all my blogs I have done a lot of research and a lot of positive feedback from my teammates that helped me answer my questions. All the sites like iGoogle and Gmail have made it easier to communicate with others. These tools have also helped me learn about all the ways you can produce or create a project and work with a partner without being next to the person. All of this has really helped me progress in school and do well on my NJ ASK.

Comment2(Michael)Week4

You did a good job. I would suggest spell check and you didn't really list the kind of science being used.

Week 4 Prompt

The video I watched was called "ARTFusion". The video was about how art can relate to science. Art has a lot to do with color and colors include color pigments . Color pigments are big part of science because they are one of the substances that help make the color of our skin. In the video a teacher by the name of Dennis Wilson said that when your talking about a painting your talking a bout the way that color and light react. He also said that it has a lot to do with physics. From the video I learned that paint had color pigments in it. I thought pigments only had something to do with the coloring of our skin , but since I've seen the video I now know what I didn't know before.

Comment1(Mekka)Week4

Good job Mekka.I would just suggest using spell check next time.

Comment2(Karina)Week3

This is the comment I gave to Karina's post : Great answer. I definitely know th difference between a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse now. Keep up the good work.

Comment1(Bryce)Week3

This is the comment I gave Bryce's post : Good job. I think you gave a great answer. You should have typed the question so your reader know's what your talking about.

Week 3 Prompt

At the top is my original question, answer, and picture to help solve the answer. The answer I gave was okay but I would like to elaborate on that answer. The sun's gravity affects tides because first of it is the prime mover of tides. In all the sun only affects 45% of the movement of the tides. Next is the moon's gravity. The moon is known to have a greater affect on  tides than the sun because the moon is a whole lot closer to the earth than the sun is. Even though the sun's gravitational pull is larger on the earth it's influence on the tides is not as strong as the moon's. The affect of the certain gravities can be determined by the earth's tilt. Now with all that said I think I have come to the conclusion that the moon's gravity has a greater affect on the Earth's tides.

My Game: Makeover Madness

If I could create a game it would be called "Makeover Madness". The characters would four girls and four boys. The girls name would b Selena, Bri, Nye, and Scarlett. The boys names would be Sammie, Donovan, VJ, and Mike. I want to create game were people can learn memory and how to do things within a time limit. In the game people have to match the style that is given to them with selected line up of clothes within a 2 minute and 30 second time limit. I want kids to take away a sense of quickness and mind memory. Maybe by remembering what buttons have to be pushed they can develop muscle memory in their fingers. This challenge is fun because if you like fashion and beating time scores then you'll love this game. This game will keep you looking to make sure you have the outfit right. I almost forgot to say the game is for girls and boys that's why kids can choose if they want to be one of the five girls or one of the five boys. Kids will come back because they either enjoy doing the makeovers or they are always trying to beat their score. Whatever the reason is I know that " Makeover Madness" is a fun and brain bending game that kids will love. Thank you for reading.

Gaming Blog

I am currently playing the game Totally Spies Mall Brawl. The game can be found on http://www.totallyspies.com or http://allforgirls.net/totally-spies-mall-brawl.html. I have been playing this game for about two years now and I really enjoy it. The purpose of the game is to help the totally spy girls Clover, Alex, and Sam save the mall by defeating Tim Scam and his evil group of hairstylist robots. The game is computerized so that's why I gave you the website. From playing the game I learn not just fight techniques, but I also learn quickness and as the saying goes how to think on my toes. This game can be used to build sharpness in your thinking process and you can build up memory in your fingers. This is what I learned from The Totally Spies Mall Brawl game.

Week6_Corrections

On the first blog I did have a good answer but I think I would have research a little bit better instead of going with some the answer's inside my brain.

On my second blog I didn't have a very good answer because I should have researched how the different states of matter effects the container gravitational wise.

I think I did a good job on my week five but I should have included that salt and water forms a homogeneous mixture.

I think blog number one was my best blog because even though I didn't hit every point I think got the major part of what the difference is from a chemical change and a physical change.

In my next cycle of blogs I can do more research and may be try harder questions and maybe try to to plan my answers out before I write them.

Week5_Prompt#1

When you mix water into salt, soil, and sugar you create a compound. A compound a pure chemical substance consisting of two or more different chemical elements. I know this because for example using the and water compound I would like to say sodium (salt,Na) is one element and when you add H2O which is two other element then that forms a compound. The compound starts with two ions and than winds up with an ionic bond. These two elements form an ionic bond because Sodium is a metal and we all know that oxygen and hydrogen are non-metals.

Week4_Bodies-Electric

The challenge that the Design squad was faced with was creating a light and sound show based off of a few dance steps hip hop choreographer Wyatt Jackson. The kids have to incorporate sound with every step they make using floor sensors. There are also flex sensors or touch sensors in their arms that will change the colors of the lights. The most creative light show will be featured in Wyatt and his dancer Stephanie's performance. The red team uses a strategy to help them create their floor sensors. The red team uses two steel metal plates that produce electricity, then they placed foam between the to plates. Even though the foam does not produce electricity now wen the person steps on the floor sensors the steel plates will gently come together and create a sound. Blue team also came up with a strategy for the floor sensors. They know that they are only allowed to use four different beats but that doesn't necessarily mean that they can only have four sound plates on the floor. They choose to connect two set of sounds to the same wiring so one pair of plates make the same sound and another pair of plates make the same sound. These are just some of the strategies that the teams used. Every body in the team listens to each persons ideas and the teams share roles in the assingment so no one feels like their pulling everyones weight. They also give alot of tough loveand motivation to their other team members.
I would have probably done the same thing as the blue team . I love their idea for the floor pads. I would have probably changed up the sounds to be high, low, fast, slow etc. so the show can feel more animated. I also would have put more color into my light show so I could have a more life. I learned that when you put wires together they get the same results when put to work . An example for those don't understand is when the blue team put two wires together in two pads so those two pads can create the same sound.

Week3_Promp#2

Noble gases don't form chemical bonds because of their high ionization energy an range of almost zero electron affinity. Even though noble gases were expected to not be active at all they have proved scientist wrong. Noble gases are able to form bonds with fluorine and oxygen. Noble gases may not be completely reactive, but they have pulled off what we thought was the impossible.

Week2_Prompt#2

Physical properties affect the states of matter in very different ways. First, I would like to talk about solids. Solids have a definite volume and shape but when placed inside of certain conditions the properties change. When you put a solid in a heated container it begins to melt and turns into a liquid such as melting ice. When put into a frozen or cold container the solid stays solid ,but may feel harder because of being frozen. Secondly, I would like to talk about liquids. Liquids do not have a definite shape ,but liquids have a definite volume as long as temperature and pressure stays constant. liquid when heated turns to a gas and when frozen it turns in to a solid Example s of both these things would be evaporation, boiling water, or freezing water. Lastly, I would like to talk about gases. Gases do not have a definite shape or volume. Gases are all around air is even a gas. Even though a gas can not me measured or even seen it can still be con fined inside of a container. That was how physical properties affect the states of matter in a different container.

How do you think science will help you in your career life when your older ?

I think science will help me in becoming a good pediatrician. I will know all about medicine and germs that can affect a child. Science is a fantastic subject and it can really help me in the future.
CHALLENGE:
This is a question to all my followers and anyone else who ever else wants to comment on this question: How Do You Think Science Will Help You In Your Career Life When Your Older? Please comment your answers on my blogger page and I will be sure to get older.

Week1_Prompt#1

The difference between a physical and chemical change when acted on matter is first of all a physical change does not change the chemical properties of an object. Secondly physical change involves a change in the physical property such as state of matter size or color. For example when you take water in a bottle that is already formed as a liquid and turn that liquid into a solid by freezing it. Chemical changes happen very powerful but on a much smaller scale. Chemical changes also happen between molecules and the changes go unseen at first. Finally overtime you see the results of the chemical change just slowly progressing until you fully see it. For example The Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was first given to us as a copper statue of a woman that stands for freedom; then naturally over hundreds of years she becomes a greenish color. This is a cause of chemical change because the air molecules and other natural causes have combined to take away the statues copper color and give it a greenish color which is what we see now. To summarize all that I tried to say; I am simply saying physical changes can be made without changing the make of a substance while chemical changes do the opposite.

Big Thanks to Miss Douglas

I would like to give a great big thank you to Miss Douglas the best science teacher in the world for putting all of this together for us. I would have never been able to do these things and experience all the things I have these past weeks if it wasn't for her because without her giving me this opportunity I would have never known what technology may have to offer to me. So thanks again. Keep up the good work , your the best.

Technology In Scince

I like science because it's so universal. Everyone uses the same methods and learn the same objectives. Science also helps me on my goals to become a pediatrician. In order for me to me to become one I have to know all about the germs and health in dangers in the environment and world and what better place to get that information then in science class.I enjoy technology because it's so versatile but at the same time it's complex because technology is used by everyone and it's used everywhere around the world. Technology is complex because as we all know it is the gateway to the future and if you don't know how to use it then you will be left behind. It's also complex for example because allot of older people who weren't raised with computers so they find it very hard to use and understand.I know that it is up to the younger generation to step in and teach the older generation something for a change, and that's why I love technology because it gives me a chance to lead and teach someone instead of learning from someone for a change. That's what I like about science and technology.
